All is Well

So, just an update. The surgery went really well and I was home by 1pm on Monday. Just been recuperating the last couple of days and feeling pretty good except for the discomfort that would be normal with the removal of an ORGAN. heh It's not so bad. I have four holes in my belly that are now itching like crazy... this is good... I'm healing. Tomorrow I guess I can take a shower and let them get wet, but I'm scared to for some stupid reason. My mommy came and took care of me Tuesday and Wednesday and took me to get my hair washed yesterday. Today I was just on my own, which isn't so bad. I used the time to watch movies and do some scrapbooking. The worst thing... I'll probably gain all my weight back while I recuperate since I can't get any exercise and I'm sort of pigging out. I need comfort food damn it! heh

More later... headed back to my couch.

What's Going On?

Mr. SD and I had a nice weekend camping at Doheny State Beach.  It was great getting to camp right there on the beach, but unfortunately, Doheny is just not that great of a beach.  It is REALLY rocky and reminds me of the east coast beaches I have been to where the waves crash just in one spot.  I know that's due to the contour of the land, but it isn't very fun.  This beach went from waves crashing in one spot (which was full of rocks) and then once you went behind the waves there was a deep drop off (Mr. SD couldn't touch the ground there).  I didn't go out there because the rocks were too much for my tender toesies!

We still had a great time and played games, relaxed, read, and just hung out together.  It was nice and TOO short!  I also pigged out on junk food and gave myself a gall bladder flare up on Saturday night  =(  Luckily the darn thing will be removed next Monday.  In the meantime I'm just working my ass off at work trying to get everything done before I'm off for two weeks!  Of course, we had to get hit with a virus at my job this week which is playing havoc with our networks and just taking up way too much of my time.  Yeah, that's a whine you hear.  But, I'm just gonna roll with the flow and do what I can to get as much work completed as possible before Friday at 5!  In fact, I'm back at it now!  Seeya!

A Milestone

It always feels good when you hit a "milestone".  Even if you hit it and aren't exactly catching your "goal" yet.  Today marks the day where I have lost 20 pounds.  Next Week will be three months.  Technically, I should have lost between 24-30 pounds if I had done everything I was supposed to, but you and I both know that I blow it now and then.  But, it's a good start and I feel that I can be proud of my accomplishment so far and keep it going.  I think at about 20 pounds was where I kind of fell off the wagon when I was working on my weight a couple of years ago.  I'm not going to do that again!  Again, I have to make it my lifestyle and that's the part that is hard.  This week I am having a sweet tooth something fierce... could it be hormonal?  heh  But, I would sure love to scarf down on about 10 cookies!  Or some yummy Costco cake!  But, I'll be "good".  I guess what i really should be doing at this point is trying to focus on adding exercise into my life instead of just watching my food potions and types.  This is really the hardest part.  It isn't that i don't WANT to exercise, but it is hard to make the time and for this I have to MAKE the time because there isn't really any extra there to just make use of.

Here are some dieting things I've learned that work for me:

When I want to eat sweets, I sit with a handful of bubble gun and chew a piece until the flavor is gone then exchange it with a  fresh one.  I just keep this up until my jaws are tired and/or I have satisfied my need for something sugary.

If you only have three slices of bacon on it, a BLT really is NOT that fattening.  I eat them a lot - without any dressing/mayo or butter, of course - and I load mine up with fresh tomoatos from my mommy's garden and it is very satisfying.  Same thing with any type of lunchmeat, I guess.  If you don't use a BUNCH, just enough for some flavor and then add lots of veggies.  It's only like 6-7 WW points depending on the bread you use.

I am a Chip and Dip junkie!  I love 'em.  But, they are BAD NEWS!  So, I've researched and found myself some alternative dipping fodder.  1st, use chips that are the lowest in fat you can find.  Personally, mine aren't ALL that lowfat - I'm addicted to plain pita chips, but I take a box full of baggies and the bag of chips and weigh them out into portion sized bags.  That way I never overeat, but still get the chip thrill.  Dips... EASIER!  I'm into HUMMUS right now.  Flavored and spicy hummus dips are the bomb.  Also lowfat yogurt dips, like tazatiki or make your own with what you like in them.  I can LOAD up my chips with lots of dip and feel no guilt or worries.  So, I guess finding ways to eat your favorite things without it hurting the ol' diet is the way to go.  If they could just figure out how to make low-cal cookies - particularly like LOFTHOUSE cookies or Chocolate chip cookies!  Mmmmmmmmmmm.... I want cookies.

Did I mention that I really don't pay attention to sodium?  haha   I guess that is probably an area I need to work on.

Okay... back to work!

The Weekend

And, isn't it a joy!?! We spent the day with our families. In the early day we headed up to my mommy's to visit with my niece, nephew, and sister-in-law. We hadn't seen them since October, so it was great to get to play with the kids. My niece appears to have taken a liking to Mr. San Diego - more so than ME! HMPH! She designed a "race" between me and Mr. SD, which he won so the two of them delighted in calling me The Loser the rest of the afternoon. Did I mention she is FIVE!?! SHEESH!

We then headed to see Mr. San Diego's niece in a musical where she absolutely kicked ass. She's around 11, I think, and she has quite the stage presence (as was mentioned to us by some folks sitting nearby when they figured out we were there to see her). The kid has no fear and sings and hams it up like a pro. I have no doubt that this is an area she will excel in and do well in if she chooses to continue on this path. I am very impressed.

Tomorrow is relax, laundry, and Nascar. Then back to the grind =( I'm choosing to enjoy the weekend for now, though.

Dating

I mean, I have a date. For my surgery. I'm going to get chopped open on August 22. If everything goes well it will be a laparoscopy and I'll go home the same day. There is a 10% chance that I have to stay the night in the hospital and a smaller chance that they will actually have to cut me wide open and then spend a couple of days in the hospital and much longer recovering. I'm hoping it all goes smooth and I can be back at work in a week because I've used a LOT of sick time this year and I don't have enough to stay out longer than that! YIKES!

Anyway, that's the big news. I guess the good part is I will have lots of time at home to work on scrapbooking and maybe I'll get a little bit caught up! And, I'll get to watch lots of movies! See, I'm good at looking at the bright side =)
