Picture-a-rama

Believe it or not, I actually posted pictures from our trip on the PHOTOBLOG page! Whooooooo! It's a miracle! So for those who want to see my dorky self, go on over to the pictures and take a look.

I also posted some old pictures from last year. I'm going to try to get caught up on picture posting. How many times have I said that? Hm.

But, to get you in the mood, here's one I didn't post over there. Yes, these ARE my fingernails (while we were on vaction) and they are freaking CUTE! I call these Cancun Aquarium Nails.

Alright, Alright, Alright!!!

I have been SOOOOO busy, you wouldn't believe. Work has been so crazy, I don't get home until late and I've just been wiped out! But, I'm taking a little break for a moment to post this! Luckily, I do have a new secretary starting on the 30th so that should help me out so I'm not sop beaten down by the job.

Anyway... the vacation! Yea! We started off with Cozumel, a little island to the east of the Yucatan coast. We flew to Cancun, took the bus to Playa Del Carmen and then the ferry to Cozumel. It was BEAUTIFUL there. I WILL be posting pics, but I don't have access to them at the moment. We were lucky to be there during a spring cultural festival they were having and they had a show demonstrating different dances & costumes from different regions in Mexico in the town square on our first night there. We enjoyed the show during and after our dinner. We visited a beach club that was so-so, we toured the island by rental car, toured the main town on foot and overall had a great time. The highlights were an afternoon at Mezcalito's bar on the "other side of the island". I had been there before and it was still mostly the same. We dranks some beers, had giant cheeseburgers, and lounged around in hammocks on the beach. I did not, however, flash my boobs for free beer... this time.

We also visited the San Gervasio ruins in the middle of the island. That would have been really great except it was so freaking hot and muggy that I was a little grumpy and anxious to get back to the AC inthe rental car.

We stayed in a place called Villas Las Anclas. It's the number one rated hotel on TripAdvisor.com for Cozumel, but it's no 4 star place or anything. It's just a simple $80 per night, two-story "apartment-style" hotel room. It's clean and the staff is very friendly and helpful, but it is a far cry from 1st class accomodations, if that's your preference.

When we left Cozumel and headed to Cancun, we stopped at Costco to stock up on food for the condo and then headed to our time share, Coral Mar. I've been there before and it's fine, but we were on a 5th floor unit, which was a drag for getting our things and selves up and down the stairs! I'm lazy. haha

While in Cancun, we went Xcaret, the site of the big fall 10 years ago. It was great! We floated down the underground river, snorkeled, explored the park, and at night we watched the huge Vegas-style show. The show is cool. The first part is a mini-history of the Mayan people and what happened when the Spaniards came, then the second part is a display of cultures from the diferent regions of Mexico. Similar to the show on Cozumel, except on a grand scale. It was fabulous and if you get a chance to go to Xcaret, I highly recommend it.

We also visited Mayan ruins at Chichen Itza, Tulum and Coba. I was surprised to find that at both Chichen Itza and Tulum they now have all of the buildings roped off so that people can't climb around and get close up views. I was disappointed for Mr. San Diego since he had never had the opportunity to visit them before. However, at Coba you can still climb on the structures and he got to climb to the top of the Noch Mul Pyramid, stated to by the tallest pyramid in the Yucatan. It was miserably hot while visiting each of these places, but we still had a really good time seeing them.

Some of our excursions were on tours and for some we rented a car. It was good to go both ways. We also spent some time in the downtown area of Cancun (we had to do laundry!) and of course did some toy shopping! They have a store there called Chedraui which I guess is their version of Walmart... well, they have Walmart, too, but Chedraui is COOL because they are fighting the Walmart presence, but undercutting their prices. Anyway, at Chedraui, I found two Hot Wheels Treasure Hunts! I have only found one Treasure Hunt before in my life and that was when we were in Peru, so apparently the only time I can find them is when I am out of the country! We also got pulled over by a cop that made us bribe him with $20! I was sort of excited about that because I figure it was worth $20 to have a story to tell, but Mr. San Diego was, um, less enthusiastic about it. My thing is that I've been going to Mexico since I was born and NEVER had a situation like that before, I always HEAR about it, but figure it is an exaggeration, so I thought it was funny that it happened to us. I'm weird, what can I say?

We spent our last night there in the hotel zone partying. Unfortunately it is frigging EXPENSIVE to party there! I really wanted to go to this place called Coco Bongo which is a dance club, but they do these shows all night, too, but it was a $40 cover just to get in! A lot of the places want you to do their "all inclusive" plan where you pay like $30 and it's all you can drink. The problem is we really just drink beer and htey give you crappy beer in a cup so we don't want to do that. We found a couple of places to kick it and have some beers, though, and we had fun.

It was a great trip and I'll DEFINITELY post some pics REALLY SOON!!!

Hiya! Apparently there have been some blogger issues since every time I've tried to post I haven't been able to access it! I am back from vacation, back to the grind, and finally back to posting!

Cancun was awesome and I'll do a good post about it a little later. I have some friends on their way over and we're celebrating one of my friend's 40th birthday today with lunch, pedicures, a day in Old Town San Diego, topped off with dinner at the Corvette Diner.

I just wanted to take a moment to let you know I'm still around...

PS Jimmie Johnson kicked some BUTT last week! WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Finally, he can leave Talladega without everyone hating him for wrecking people... instead they hate him for winning!
