Sweet Land of Liberty

Over at Vinny's (lotta linkage love lately, Vinny ~ oooh alliteration), I said I wasn't going to waste any more energy on the topic of the Pledge of Allegiance, but I have a thought. Yeah, yeah... get scared, Jenn's thinking.

Why don't schools teach you about the flag and patriotism and all of that fun stuff? I do not remember ever learning why we said the Pledge of Allegiance. That doesn't mean I didn't learn it, but I'm pretty sure that my lessons with regards to Patriotism and the American Flag were pretty minimal outside of learning about it in general history lessons. Perhaps kindergarten is a little young to try to instill patriotic values into a child, but I'm thinking that why not start each year of elementary school off with lessons on patriotism and the flag and the histroy behind it, etc. If it's a continuing part of the curriculum, over time children should actually have an understanding of what it means to recite the Pledge of Allegiance (whether they're "under God" or not). Most of you know about my psychotic obsession with respecting the flag properly and I know darn well that I was never taught that there even was a US Flag Code and why is that? I think it's important for people to to learn these things from an early age. If a child doesn't come from a home where these types of values and traditions are observed, they don't have the benefit of having that patriotic spirit. It took something like the September tragedy for so many people to all of a sudden become "Patriotic" and that bugs the hell out of me. What's worse is they don't really know how to be Patriotic. And really, when I see tattered flags flying from vehicles, I want to follow them home and give them a little lesson (if ya know what I mean) so they understand how disrespectful they are being.

I don't have childen, but for those of you who do, since our schools don't take the responsibility, please do so at home. I guess I'm just as bad though, because the closest I will come to wanting the schools to provide lessons in Patriotism is writing about it here in this blog.

Hey, maybe I can write a letter?

Writing Letters

Some people are really good at writing letters. As an example, I'll point you towards Vinny, who when he finds something wrong, he writes a letter and expects an answer. Mr. San Diego is the same way. He writes A LOT of letters to address problems as well as express appreciation for good service, etc.

I, on the other hand, have ALWAYS said "I'm going to write a letter" and then I don't follow through. I mean, this is actually a joke. My ex-(err)boyfriend STILL teases me when I get pissed about something. I'll hear "so are you going to write a letter?" Jerk. Now, I'm not saying that I don't write the letter. I do. I just never send the damned thing. I have a letter on my computer right now to Magic Mountain with about four points of complaint in it. I just wanted to "clean it up" a bit and make it a bit less verbose before sending it off, but alas, I never did. Why am I such a flake?

Well Hi There!

Were you starting to get worried about me? hahaha I know, it's crazy, but I've actually been working really hard today! Go figure. I finally finished my project today (the one I've been working on for TWO weeks!), so that is a load off of my mind. Of course, now I have 17 other urgent items to attend to so I'm in the "I'm overwhelmed" mode right now. This is not even counting the little personnel issue I have to resolve. I have an employee who is having a conflict with her supervisor. How do I fix this? I actually think the employee is somewhat justified in her feelings of persecution (there really does seem to be a personality conflict even thought the sup denies it), but on the other hand her supervisor is probably my best and most trusted employee who I feel manages with efficiency and diplomacy. So I have spoken with them individually to get the two sides of it and I am planning a little mediation pow-wow tomorrow to try and look for some solutions that do NOT include the employee quitting! I hopped on the net hoping to find a little help and I found this really awesome site with some good management concepts. So check it out here if you have any need/interest! And, wish me luck dealing with this tomorrow! BLAH!

I also sent out my daily resume. I have a plan. I send out one resume per day to a job in San Diego. I figure eventually one of these places will bite. Hopefully it isn't too soon, but given the fact I want $40,000, if one bites soon, I have to jump on it. No need to wait around until I'm actually READY to move and then have to take a pay cut. YIKES! I've applied for a couple that actually sound pretty cool, some of them I think I'm a little under qualified for, and others I'm not sure will pay what I need to make. But, I try to choose one that has a potential of paying my salary requirement and that I have qualifications that are pretty close or that I say are close hehe. Okay, it's true I haven't used Publisher yet, but how hard can it be? So of course, I have to say I know how to use it! haha I would never presume to overstate my Access qualifications, though. I KNOW I'm a beginner and that's one program you just can't fake your way through. Other than that, I can do anything. I'm bright and have worked in many different fields doing many different types of jobs ~ I'm very adaptable! Eventually someone will bite. Well, I did have ONE bite, but I had to refuse the interview as they wanted me to start on July 1st! I'm not THAT ready to move to San Diego! Sheesh! Too fast. Okay, I'm probably being boring today, eh?

Last night I did pretty good at NTN. Even was ahead of Nick for like 2 seconds haha Pinball wasn't too bad either, we won 2 games and lost 2 games, but I kicked in the two we won! Woot, Baby! I got to hear all aobut "Pinburgh" from my pinball pals who went. Unfortunately no BIG wins, but two of them came in 5th (I think), so won free entries into next year's event. They kep bugging me that I need to go. I keep reminding them that I SUCK!!!

Anyway, guess I should do the random Wednesday Pluggage. So here are three that might be good and might suck. You be the judge:

The Cinema

This week's flick was Minority Report. I actually really liked this movie. The story has pre-cognitives (psychics) predicting future murders and a "PreCrime" unit that arrests murderers before they actually commit the murder, thus ending murder in Future DC. One PreCrime Cop gets fingered as a murderer of someone he doesn't even know and he runs and tries to find out why he was set-up, being certain that he would never commit murder. The story is good and I didn't have it all figured out from frame one, so that was a good thing. The only question is do ALL movies these days have to have someone jumping out of a car into the air (you know, future cars are always up in the air)? It's sort of like most movies (particularly spoofs) having Matrix type scenes of people running sideways and avoiding bullets in slow motion yadda yadda yadda. I don't want to say too much about Minority Report because I don't want to give the story away, but I recommend it and I give it an 8.

Snoring

I forgot one thing that made me laugh in the middle of the night. Friday night, I woke up to Mr. San Diego snoring. He never snores, but he is getting over a cold, so I guess that caused the rare snore. I just gave him a shove... twice, and he stopped and I went back to sleep. So I this morning, I wake up to my back being rubbed and kisses on my head. I ask "is it time to get up already"? (I'm not a morning person so he has strict instructions to make sure I get up on time) He says "no, it's only three, but you were snoring". I laughed, apologized and went back to sleep. I guess we know which one of us is the nice one! He gets shoved, I get kisses. heh

Me and My Weekend, of course

You know, I have to talk about me. Because really, the world does indeed revolve around me. Won't go on and on or anything, but wanted to share my weekend. OH! But first, make sure you stop by Journal of Doubt to check out Doubting Thomas' most recent entry. I do love his writing (and him!) and that post amused me (not amusing in a ha ha way, but amusing that he used that clever medium to say what he had to say). Maybe not as much as Mary's attempt at countering him (that was actually FUNNY!), but it was something to think about, so go read now. Then come back and read about ME!

I had the usual Saturday in San Diego full of toy shopping and jet skiing. We didn't make it to Pampas Argentine Grill yet, but we put it on our list of TO DO things in San Diego. Then Sunday was a lazy Sunday kind of day. Watched the Nascar Race, napped a bit, BBQd, then we went for a walk to the shopping center and when we arrived at Circuit City, we looked at BIG SCREEN TVs!!! hahaha I laughed and laughed and Mr. San Diego just looked at me like I was some sort of freak. hehehe It was pretty funny. Then I made him buy me an ice cream cone. Also I tried the staying overnight on Sunday night thing and it wasn't so bad. My drive to San Bernardino took only about an hour and a half and I amazed everyone with my early arrival at work. It was nice to get that extra time and not feel all rushed on Sunday night. But I am aching VERY badly today ~ particularly my legs. I'm pretty sure it was the two hours of jet skiing, but it could be a combination of that and well, other stuff. Why can't my massage be THIS Monday instead of NEXT Monday!?! Waaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Okay, going to do a little work and tomorrow I will share my opinion of Minority Report with you!

Road Race

Well, some of you may know that my Jimmie Johnson fell down a few spots in points yesterday at the Sonoma race. How shitty is that for your car to break with four freaking laps to go. Not that he was going to win, but he lost about 20 spots. Whats up with all three of the top three drivers having car troubles? Not that I minded when it came to Sterling Marlin getting knocked out of it completely! yea! At least it's not such a HUGE gap between first and the rest of us anymore (whew!) I'm bummed for my boy, but I'm sure it's only a minor setback. He is still in 4th and there are plenty of races left to give him the points to move into first place! hee hee

I actually didn't mind Ricky Rudd taking the win. He has been getting such a bum deal the last few races, it was nice to see him make it, although it was such a bummer for Nadeau to lose with three laps to go...that was such a Ricky Rudd thing to happen! haha But Kurt Bush and his ears coming in 4th was sorta blah. I JUST DON'T LIKE HIM! It's irrational, but the way of things. I think the funniest thing is that I almost picked him when I was trying to decide what guy I wanted. I guess HAD I picked him, I wouldn't be liking Jimmie Johnson! haha weirdness. Okay, babbling now. Here are the current points (top ten) standings for your perusal.

1. 2198 ~ Sterling Marlin
2. 2136 ~ Mark Martin
3. 2116 ~ Jeff Gordon
4. 2112 ~ Jimmie Johnson
5. 2110 ~ Tony Stewart
6. 2054 ~ Rusty Wallace
7. 2050 ~ Ricky Rudd
8. 2020 ~ Matt Kenseth
9. 2003 ~ Kurt Busch
10.1972 ~ Bill Elliott

The Proposal

Thanks to all of you who voiced your opinion to my question. You guys rock. It sounds like for the most part, people think it is an ok idea for a woman to propose to a man. It also sounds like there is an agreement on the not needing to buy a ring (whew).

I think doing something different than the "norm" can be really scary. Some people are very traditional and would freak out with the "role reversal". Just like with anything in the world, everyone is different and most will have different reactions to something like this. Nick sees it as an ultimatum and I guess in a way, at least for me, it would be. I've typed my beliefs/opinions on relationships and I think most of you know that Plan A is to not be the eternal girlfriend, but to move my relationship towards marriage or towards "hasta la vista" in the not too distant future.

Honestly and obviously, yes, I am kicking around this idea of being the proposer. For a couple of reasons.

First, I'm in love with a guy to whom marriage is not on his "list of priorities". To me, this says he doesn't feel the need to get married (and there is that whole milk vs. cow thing). I could wait around a long time for him to decide alright, lets just do it. So if I just ask him, then either we do or we don't.

Next, he really wants me to move to San Diego. I really want to move to San Diego. However, I don't want to quit my job (of 11 years!), leave my family & friends, and basically pull up stakes and start fresh in a new place without the feeling like it's not just a temporary arrangement. So, I'd like to know that we are heading towards marriage before I move there.

Third, I'm sort of a nut and I like to buck the system. While it would be most cool to actually get asked and get presented with a ring (yeah yeah, I like the ring idea FOR ME haha), I think as long as he doesn't say no, it will be a fun thing to do.

The thing is, again, I'm just kicking the idea around and I really, really don't think I would do it any time soon. I was thinking if by the time we returned from Peru in October (providing we discover we are good travel companions!) he hasn't asked me, that would be the time I would do it. If I'm going to move down there it's going to be at the end of this year or beginning of 2003 (depending on when I find a job), so I would need to do it before I actually pack up and move. The problem lies in if I happen to find a job BEFORE then. I figured I might as well start looking now as job searching can be a long process and I do want the "right" job with the "right" salary! But this week I had a scare when I actually got a response from a place I had submitted a resume asking if I would be available to start July 1! Talk about a panic attack! It's actually funny, but when I got the email from them, I was like "NO NO NO... I'm not ready!!!" hahaha When I told Mr. San Diego about that last night, he got all excited and started talking about us going apartment hunting this weekend and yadda yadda yadda and I said "Dude, it's a little more complicated than that. I'm looking at November, not now." So, I don't know what will happen. Everything is moving so fast now, but I'm not moving down there until we talk marriage talk. So hold me to that!!!

Oh, and the bad thing... If I ask HIM, does that mean that I have to buy my own ring? I found a really pretty one...it's only $4500! hahahahaha Or do I even get a ring if I do the asking??? Hmmm... I better think more about this.

Commuter

I'm wondering why people do not have to know the "rules of the road" prior to obtaining a driver's license. To the bitch in front of me today, I say this "hang up your cell phone and put your foot on the gas or get the hell out of my way!"

Point 1. The far left lane (The Number 1 Lane) for any of you who do not know, is called the PASSING lane. It is called this because it is used for passing slower traffic. If you are slower traffic, GET THE HELL OUT OF THE PASSING LANE!!!

Point 2. When hauling a trailer behind your vehicle. Your speed limit is less than mine (the vehicle without the trailer), it's 55 mph. In addition, youare required to stay in the far right lane and to only use the number 3 lane if you need to pass slower traffic in the number 4 lane. Unless you are on a two-lane highway, STAY THE HELL OUT OF THE PASSING LANE!!! Obviously if you must move slower than other traffic, you won't be doing any passing!

Point 3. The speed limit is 65. In the event that a California Highway Patrol officer is in front of you and is driving 60 miles per hour, you can still drive 65!!! It is not necessary for you to drive 55 because the nice officer is driving 60. If you choose to drive 55, GET THE HELL OUT OF THE PASSING LANE!!!

Do you get my point?

Opinions Wanted

Alrighty. I have a question for the guys. Actually, I'm curious about anyone's opinion, but I'm particularly interested in getting a male perspective. What do you think about women doing the proposing of marriage? If you don't think this is too weird, how far should it go, should the woman have a ring, get down on a knee? Please press that little comments link and tell me whatcha think! THANKS!

Oh! Could everyone stop over at ~Unsettled~ and let Kathleen know that we still want the damned song of the day!!! Geez!

A Boggling Wednesday

I'm going with a theme here this week. I have discovered two Boggles focused on dating (I so hate dating! It's nice to not be doing it for a change!). The Male Perspective found at The Date Project and the Female Perspective at Adventures in Dating. Have fun kiddies!

Me

I have a headache and I'm trying to get a cold, but I'm fighting it tooth and nail. I refuse to get sick! I didn't get to kiss my boyfriend all weekend because HE was sick and I'm not going another weekend that way! Grrr... Plus I just had this crap 3 weeks ago! So, I've gargled with salt water, I'm eating Zinc/Vitamin C lozenges and planning to drink some juice. On top of that (or maybe because of that), I didn't sleep well, darn it. I thought I was turning over a new leaf of sleep habits after the great night of sleep I had the night before. Oh Well. VVhatever. So thats my whining of the day.

On a positive note I beat Nick at NTN last night. YEA ME!!!! It was actually a pretty easy game, but still, it made me feel all soft and mushy inside. Of course Theo beat me still, but oh well. Can't ask for the world! Then I headed over to pinball league where we didn't have too great of a night, unfortunately. But, thats okay. I play for fun, not the big prize money at the end of the league. Plus I played some games better than my partner and that always makes me feel better. All of my pinball buddies are heading to Pittsburgh this weekend for some thing called "Pinburgh". Apparently, it's some big pinball tournament. It cracks me up that they bug the hell out of me to go. Uh, yeah, I'm going to pay alllll that money so that I can go get my ass kicked (probably by my boyfriend's ex-girlfriend) in pinball. Sounds bright. Of course, I was thinking "Pittsburgh... not all that far from Philadelphia. Hmmmm....". Heh

I wish I could think of something witty to talk about here today, but my head hurts and I'm feeling so overwhelemed by work, that I think I'm just going to get back to it and try to get this damned project (Due two days ago) done. Out.

I've been checking out Destinyland, which has some great links and today there were two that caught my eye, so I thought I'd share 'em! I decided (you know me...always changing on a whim) that I'm going to add one jen per day to the JenBoggles over there on that side bar on the left. This way you keep getting new ones, but not TOO many at once, but not just once a week, either. So without further ado... today's Jen is Jenn Doppelganger Stop by and say hi to her!

Scooby Doo!

Yup, this was the movie of the week for my motley crew of friends. We had been planning this for some time as my friend J who gets us into the movies for free is a huge Scooby fan. Mr. San Diego bought stuffed Scooby dogs with swiveling heads and limbs for the girls and for J (well, I told him to give mine to J as I realllly do not need any more clutter in my house!) So off we all went to the theatre with our hands full of Scooby Doo dolls and really low expectations. I'm telling you, this having low expectations thing really helps! I thought it was going to be awful and in fact, it has gotten some pretty bad reviews, but I actually liked it! I realized that Freddy Prinze Jr. kinda annoys me, or maybe it was just the blonde hair, but Buffy was way cute (and had some neato skeeto lavender boots!), Velma was perfect and What's-His-Name as Shaggy was great! Not too bad of a story, I mean for Scooby Doo heh and I was pretty impressed with the imagination that went into the sets. I thought they were great, particularly an old abandoned ride that was being searched for clues. People come up with some really great ideas when it comes to movies. I wish I was that creative. I'd actually recommend this one, just for fun. I'm gonna give it a 6!

Bookage

I’m feeling like I need to jump on the bandwagon. I’d like to share with my friends, my top ten novels. So, here they are!

10. Pride & Prejudice, Jane Austen
Okay, I never actually read Pride & Prejudice, but I saw the A&E movie and it was awesome. I’ve seen it like 5 times. Don’t you just love when Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennett finally hook up? Plus Colin Firth has intense eyes.

9. People Magazine, various authors
I realize that this is not really a novel, but where else (except at
freakgirl’s place
) are you going to get all the latest dirt on the celebs!?!

8. Lizard Music, D. Manus Pinkwater
What can I say about this? One of the greatest stories ever written! I have spent many nights sitting up just hoping to catch the Reynolds on late night television. That lucky Victor and the Chicken Man! If you haven’t read it, I suggest you get on that right now. FUN STUFF and packed with helpful hints like “how to properly eat pizza”!

7. Sleeping Beauty, Anne Rice pretending to be someone else.
Oh yeah! This is one that oughta come with a vibrator. Ha! Erotica, my ass, this is pure porn. WOOT!

6. The Whole Stone Barrington series, Stuart Woods
From New York Dead to Cold Paradise these books are fun and a hellofa easy read to boot! Stone Barrington (or Slut Boy, as I fondly refer to him) gets around with the ladies while solving mysteries and saving the lives of his ritzy clients. Poor guy never can settle down with a woman, though.

5. Dating Big Bird, Laura Zigman
This is a new addition. It actually feels like a story about me, only like a year or two ago, when I psychotically wanted a child. Except in this book of course the chick gets the guy, gets the kid, and gets millions of dollars. So realistic and inspiring! Reads like the modern single psycho-bitch’s diary.

4. Valley of The Dolls, Jacqueline Susann
Now, this is a classic! I mean, I read this my first time when I was ten. Imagine how exciting all the sex and drugs were for a ten year old! And lookie! You can get it on an audio book now so you don’t have to sit around turning pages or anything annoying like that! Anne, Neely & Jennifer… I always wanted to be them. Sex, Drugs, Parties, Jewels… ah, the life of the struggling stars.

3. Another French Revolution, Doubting Thomas
While I have only read an excerpt of this novel, I am excited and thrilled at the prospect of reading the whole thing. Doubting Thomas is one of my favorite writers and I am soooo looking forward to the rest of Sean’s crazy antics!

2. Lightning, Dean Koontz
Two Words, Time Traveling Nazis. Oh, that was three…anyway, still. What’s not to like? READ IT!

1. One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, Dr. Seuss
There are not enough words in the English language to describe a book this awesome. From the time I was a child, this has been on my list of all-time favorite books. Remember Clark? You know they found him in the Park, in the dark? Those are the kinds of lines you just never forget. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has lived under a rock their whole life.

Now I can tell you...

I have a scary story. Wrap your blanket tight around you and move closer to the fire. This is pretty terrifying! Last week, I did not start my, uh, "ladies days". Uh huh, yeah, that's what I mean. At first I was like, "whatever". Just a weird thing, but see, I'm like clockwork and have been for about a year or two now, so when the 4th day rolled around, I freaked out (now you know why I have been freaky and cranky lately). I was just in this total panic.

As some of you know, I have happily settled the issue of kids with the decision that the time for that, for me, has past and I'm good with it and I am planning my life with that in mind. The irony lies in that it was only a year ago that I went through a deep depression over the kid thing. All of my life I have wanted children soooo bad. This was a serious thing to me. It was always assumed I would have a child. I mean we talked about her like she was a real person, for god's sake! But I worked through things last year and came to a definite decision that I would have loved having a child and I would have been a great mom, but I don't want to have a teenager at the age of 50. I wanted to have a kid at 25, not 35 and I just let go of that desire. It was cool, I am great with this decision and I've also chosen a man who feels the same way. In no way, shape, or form does he ever want children. So, you see, if I were to get pregnant, well that would put me/us into a bit of a quandary. To this end, we are extremely careful when it comes to birth control. I'm already the "Condom Lady" of the neighborhood. I get them free since I work for Public Health and I try to get all of the evil little teenagers in my neighborhood to attempt having "Safer Sex" rather than spreading their dirty little diseases and giving birth to a new generation of evil little neighbor kids. Alas, for the most part, they ignore me... and the population explodes. But, I digress. We have never had unprotected sex and there have been no "oopsies" or drunken "whoops, I forgot the condom" things. So, it just didn't seem possible. On day 4 I took a test which said "no". This reassured me that it was probably just a weird "chick's bodies do strange things" thing, but there was still this little thing in the back of mind sayin "It could be wrong". Yesterday, I made an appt with my doctor for next week ~ just to be sure, you know and well, it won't hurt to "double-up" the protection factor so me and my Doc gotta do some talking. Of course that meant that this morning I woke up with that damned monthly visitor. I was cheering for about five minutes. Now, I'm feeling all annoyed with it, as usual. Was this way too personal to share with all of my special boggle friends? Too bad. For those of you who thought me virginal, sorry to disapoint. I AM 33!!! Sheesh, a woman has needs!

Hot Wheels

Today I was supposed to buy 3 of this special neato-skeeto Hot Wheels Red Line Club Collectors Edition VW Bus. They went on sale at 9am. The exact time that my presence was required in a meeting. No problem. These guys go on sale every two weeks, the Collector Series, and I have purchased them at all times of day. They have 10,000 available and they usually have a few left the next day for the general public. Well, NOT TODAY! I hopped online at 11am, right after my meeting, made purchase #1, logged on as customer #2 and "SOLD OUT" flashes across my screen. What the hell is that?!?! I only got one! I can't believe it! I am way bummed and Mr. San Diego is going to be way bummed and obviously, THIS was the one that I could have sold for some dough on eBay! Grrrrrr... The planets have unaligned themselves. Speaking of the skies. WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME THERE WAS GOING TO BE AN ECLIPSE LAST NIGHT!?!?! I pretty much was driving for most of it so I missed it, but shouldn't there have been something on the news or the radio or something to give me a little warning? I'm losing that "silver lining" feeling today. ARGH! Hopefully it will come back before NTN and Pinball League tonight. *SIGH*

Have I posted way too much boring crap today? Sorry. Sort of.

JennBoggles

I added my Jenn Boggle section over there on the left. No, lower... lower... yeah, right there. I did a little searching and found a few random ones. They get some pluggage at the moment, but I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for Jenn sites and there will probably be some changing up of who shows up on there. If you find any good ones or you have a good one, just comment or email me the address and I'll link it up! I ran across some really crappy Jenn sites, by the way. I tried to use only ones with grammar that we could wade through and it's somewhat of a toss-up for the religious sites. They may not want to get plugged by a site created by a girl who flashes her boobs on the internet. heh I always thought it would be cool to review sites, but I think people would hate me. Whenever I go boggle surfing, I get really brutal thoughts about these bloggers! But, I will shut up now, before I put my foot in my mouth.

Oh you want an update?

I know, I'm blowing it. Having to do work today! Phooey!

Movies... I saw two this weekend.

First I saw The Sum of All Fears. I'm pretty sure you all know whats up with that one. Supposedly a Jack Ryan story, but no, with Freakgirl's boyfriend, Ben, it just isn't the same. I'm not sure why they didn't just change his characters name to something else, but whatever. I don't read the Clancy books, anyway, but I have seen the past flicks and liked them and of course, I am a huge Harrison Ford fan. I'm also a huge Ben Affleck fan, so I was all good with him playing the role, but it just seemed weird, because it wasn't really a sequel or a prequel, so what really was the point here of calling him Jack Ryan?? I still liked the movie. There have been some complaints that it was a little slow and I agree that the pace could have been picked up, but I still thought it was a good movie and I'm giving it a 7 (mainly because a Ben Affleck flick cannot have anything less!! On a cuteness scale from 1-10, he's a 12!).

Immediately following this, we decided to stay and watch Undercover Brother. Yes, it was exactly what you think. Dumb. But, I went into it KNOWING it was going to be dumb, so I just let it take over and laughed through most of it. And, c'mon, who doesn't like Doogie Howser, huh? Mr. San Diego, who wanted to see the thing in the first place, was all annoyed and said it sucked because it was dumb... uh, what the hell? I guess he thought it was going to be one of them there classics or something. Dork. I give it a 4. Watchable if you're in taht dumb/funny type mood.

4 ~ Undercover Brother

Jenns of the World ~ Unite!

I have decided that I'm going to create a new links section on this site. It will include only Blogs by people named Jenn (Jen or other variables allowed). I never realized how many people out in Blogland stole my name. If you know of a JennBlog that is GOOD then go ahead and submit it to me by email or in comments and I will check it out. If I like it, I'll link to it and if I keep reading it, I'll keep the link. This all came about because of Mr. Doubting Thomas who brought this phenomenon to my attention (Smooches, DT!)

Ohhh, and lookie what I just bought. Seemed cool, until I saw I was paying $4.95 for shipping! Ah well, I'm still happy =) I love eBay so much.

Smooshy

Can I be a girl for a moment here? Oh wait, what else would be new? Today is the first Monday in some time that I felt like I left my awesome weekend feeling like all was good in the world ~ planets aligned, etc. Being an insecure psyco-bitch from hell, I'm usually freaking out about one thing or another related to the Mr. San Diego. Last week, the "I haven't met his parents" thing, before that, "does he just "love" me or is he "in love" with me?" yadda yadda Today I'm feeling GOOD. I feel like we reached a higher level of comfort with each other. Does this mean the newness is gone? I don't think so. It just feels damned good. He's a nut, though. In practically the same breath as discussing his serial monogamy (He made the comment about his history of 5-year girlfriends and I laughed at him and said he needn't worry about that with me... we will definitely be breaking that chain!), he starts talking about how only one of us is going to need a million dollar retirement fund ~ in other words, I can not stress over saving up a million to retire on, because he will have it. I am so wild in love with this guy... If I have to live with 8000 HotWheels, etc, then fine, I'll do it! hahaha Luckily, I come from a toy-loving family, myself. Whew. I just felt like sharing my happy feeling =)

I Hate Sunday Nights

Really, I do. This long distance relationship stuff is such a bummer. We're considering doing the looooong commute to work on Monday mornings instead of the 2 hour drive Sunday nights, but not this week (although he did offer to stay if I wanted to give him a 2-hour blow job ~ that was, of course, about the time I hopped up and said "well, call me when you get home, babe!") so here I am all alone again *POUT* Oh well, maybe by the end of the year I'll be a San Diego girl. That would rock.

So, while I would have preferred 1st place at the Nascar Race, of course, not much bad you can say about 3rd!!! Jimmie ran very well today at Pocono, I was happy. I'd have felt happier if Sterling Marlin wasn't right behind him, damn it! I felt so bad for Ricky Rudd, though. He really ran awesome and he deserved that win and then to "blow it" at the very end. Geez. That just sucked. On the other hand, Kurt Busch went out... hee hee hee ha ha hee ha hee ha ha ha Okay, so I'm a bitch, but I just can't like the dude! It was a good race and nice to actually get to watch it at home where I could kick back and relax for a change! We spent all day at the Renaissance Faire yesterday and then hit two movies afterwards ~ rendering us pretty much exhausted. So, this morning, after toy shopping (and no, I couldn't find any damned Jimmie Johnson Chase the Race cars!!! PHOOEY!!!), we just kicked it with the race. After that and a "nap", we hung out by my pool. Excellent day & relaxing. But I gotta run and read that YaYa Sisterhood book tonight. I promised my secretary I could finish it this weekend and have it back to her by Monday and I haven't even started, so time for a power reading session. Maybe I'll have something less mundane to say tomorrow.

Okay, for my Nascar Pals, apparently due to a wet track, qualifying went out the window for Pocono so the starting line-up is based on points standings. Yup, that means Jimmie Johnson is starting in #2! WOOT! Of course it also means Sterling Marlin is on the pole and he is so way ahead of everyone in points. How did that happen???

See, I didn't even start watching Nascar until the season was already underway. I'm pretty sure it was about March when I picked #48 as "my guy" and actually started paying attention, so anything prior to that and I'm rendered clueless. I am a TOTAL newbie here. But, suprise~surprise, I am totally loving watching racing (yeah, the thing I used to scoff, "who wants to sit around watching cars go in a circle all day?") Now I'm a Nascar junkie. And if anyone would like to send me Jimmie Johnson/Lowe's #48 Chase The Race cars (1/64), I would be very happy =) I'm SHAMELESS!!! hee hee I don't think you can put those on an Amazon wishlist!

It's long, but I'll help out Tinyblog with his survey:

blogger pride! the blogger survey

Ethics/Personal Life:

Has a blog post ever got you into trouble?

Nope. I've written some things that I hope my boyfriend never reads if he comes here, but he has been asked not to read it and I'm pretty sure he doesn't.

How many people do you know face-to-face who read your weblog?

I have one friend that I know for sure reads this pretty regularly ~ not sure exactly how often, but he's actually commented a time or two. I have a couple of friends that have the link or are aware of the site and could probably find it, but I don't know if they are interested enough to read (dorks).

Have you met any of your regional (or even remote) bloggers?

Never, but I'm relatively new. I think most of the people I've virtually "met" from blogging live on the other side of the US. Probably Alph is the only regular person that is in So Cal that visits my site.

Do you modify or delete posts? How often? Why?

Once I post something, I review it on my site. If it doesn't read quite right, I will go back and make it sound better until it does. I also correct typos, etc. that I catch. I have deleted and/or modified posts before because I decided it was inappropriate or I was worried it might get read by the wrong person.

How much is your weblog a part of your personal identity? Do you feel like people who don't know about your blog don't really know you?

While my blog is really truly how I feel, think, etc, it isn't everything about me. Plenty of people know me very well and do not read this, nor will they ever!

How has blogging changed your life?

I'm sort of worried about me, actually. I've really become a junkie. I spend quite a bit of time reading blogs and writing in mine. I guess it's become important for some reason. I started this as just a journal for me, but then it got fun having people read it and while I know the people I talk to via blogging aren't in my real life, I find myself saying "so & so said this today" or "this person turned me on to this link today" (about bloggers) in my everyday life. Am I sick? I'm having fun and I guess I'll keep it up until it isn't fun anymore.

Technical/Design:

Do you know how to code at all? Did you learn how to code by blogging?

I learned HTML years ago when I made my first website from (almost) scratch. It was a fan club site for the band Honeyslide. Then I had a site that chronicled my trip across the country so my family and friends could see that I was ok and where I was and hear about what was going on. Unfortunately, my HTML skill is still at that level and I pretty much suck compared to most coders today.

What weblogging tool do you use and why?

Blogger. Because it's the one I started with, it's easy, and I'm lazy.

Does the design seem like something that is just something that has to be dispensed with in order to be able to write publicly, or is your design an integral part of your writing and presentation?

As most people who read me know, I don't care much about design. In fact, overly designed sites annoy the hell out of me. I like things simple. However, I am seriously actually considering doing this really neato skeeto layout that I am totally in love with, but it is going to take some work and I NEED SOME DAMNED HELP!!!

How many times have you changed your weblog design entirely (or nearly so)?

Never.

Readership/Motivation:

How many people would you guess (educated guess based on hit counts/logfiles) read your weblog on a weekly basis at least?

Now that I've displayed my breasts for all, my readership has grown. haha I usually only get about 150 people per week, but this week is going to be doubled.

What have you done to get more people to look at your site?

Put up pictures of my boobs! hehe Seriously though, BlogSnob, comment on other pages with a link to my page, that's about it.

What one or two characteristics make a blog really popular? Are there things that you could do to have more people read your weblog that you conciously do not do? Why?

I have no clue. What's popular? I go to blogs that people rave about and I just don't get it, so I guess I'm not a good judge of whats popular. I read those that entertain me. I like blogs that are funny and interesting and that make me feel like the person writing it is someone I'd actually like to talk to or that I have common interests with or heck, that they're just plain nuts! I have no clue what to do to make more people read my blog except sign up for more rings, etc and I'm not interested in doing that.

What really popular weblog do you think most deserves it...and/or least deserves it?

Cannot answer... I'm not really familiar with who is popular and who isn't.

How do you feel about your readership? What makes for a quality readership to you?

Readership. Ummm...you mean the 4 people who read my blog? They rock. I think that I've gotten to a point where I have some really fun and interesting people who stop by and read the drivel that I write. It isn't really important to have a zillion people read, but what I like is the quality of the people who stop by. I love getting a dialogue going on some of the posts. I realize that my blog is not exactly the thought provoking type. I don't make an attempt to be serious and write about whats going on in the world. I write about me and whats going on in my life and surprisingly there are actually a few people who find this interesting! Go figure. It seems that there is this group of mostly strangers who are all visiting each others blogs and talking about each other and to each other and it's fun. If I got 1000 hits a day it wouldn't matter, if the people who came weren't like those who already do. It's like these little relationships have been created and you start to get to know each other and whats happening with each other. Wow, sort of like the friends I have in the real world? heh I look forward to reading my comments each day to see who has been by and what they have to say and I look forward to reading whats going on or what is the opinion of the day for the people who have become my little boggle world.

Influence of Other Bloggers:

What other blogger is most responsible for you starting your own weblog.

Interestingly, I have no clue who he is. I received an email from someone once that said "Hey, check out my friend's website, it's pretty cool and he's a neat guy". For the hell of it, I did. It was a Blogger blog and I thought, hmmm... I'll have to check out this Blogger thingy one day. About a month later, I did and here I am today, 6 months later.

Who was the first other blogger (that you know of) who put you on thier sidebar, and how did you feel? How did it influence your blogging?

I'm pretty sure it was Vinny at Insignificant Thoughts. Yes, definitely Vinny. I was all excited because I thought, "WOW! Someone actually reads the crap I write?!?!" It made me more aware that people read what I write so I better start actually thinking about what I write so I don't sound like a complete moron.

What other blogger do you most admire for her writing skills?

Everyone on my dailies is someone I admire or they wouldn't be there. Each is unique and presents themselves differently. Sometimes I laugh out loud when I'm reading, sometimes you feel someone's pain and I definitely get an education from everyone in some way.

What other blogger do you most admire for her design skills?

Anyone whose design is not annoyingly busy. PLEASE would people just make it clear and easy to read already?!?!

Who is a blogger that you think is really good but doesn't get nearly the attention they are worthy of?

Can't answer that. I don't pay a whole lot of attention to who is getting attention and who isn't. I have my own little world and thats all I really care about. (Hello? It IS all about me. When will people just accept this?)

Do you feel obligated to have people on your link lists/sidebars that you never read?

No way. I have people who catch my attention that I put in my plugged section. If I stay interested they get moved to my dailies, otherwise they fall off.

What one or two characteristics define a really quality blog (in your humble opinion, of course)?

I guess I already sorta said. It's gotta keep me interested regardless of the subject matter or style and it's a definite bonus if they can make me laugh =)

Bonus Question:

Do you fear The Booge?

Is this a trick question?

Just another JennBlog

I was going to write about this issue I have with my name. How I can't figure out how I became Jenn rather than Jennifer and blah blah blah... But, now I'm sidetracked by the fact that while visiting my dear friend Doubting Thomas's site, I discover he has a secret distaste towards all things Jenn. Can this be true? Actually it's not all that secret! I'm just at a loss as to what to make of this. I'm so sad. Apparently this revulsion is actually shared by others! While this is another reason to put a stop to this Jenn stuff, it's just a sad day for me.

Immediately after logging off of Everquest tonight (first time I even played in a MONTH!), I ran across THIS AGAIN! Ummm... didn't this happen last year? Hasn't this already been covered? Why is there a new article re-hashing the same old thing? Brother.

GULP GULP GULP... oh wait, PLUG PLUG PLUG

Normally on Wednesdays I share with my three readers a few of the wonderous Boggles I have discovered and been viewing for a couple of weeks (to make sure that they are appropriate for sharing). However, due to a recent change in hard drives which left me without my "Favorites", I'm starting fresh. So, I only have one PLUG today and that's to the site belinging to my new friend, Doubting Thomas, who promises to share with us, essays on Philadelphia all summer long! Let's welcome Jenn's Reader #4 by visiting his site and saying hello!

What the HELL???

I'm going to share this news article with you. Yes, it is a couple of months old, but it's relevant to my ranting of today. Now, c'mon, this is heartwarming! This poor boy has a terrible, terrible affliction. The kindness of others is displayed by how the community rallied around to get the type of space suit that could save his life.

Now let me tell you the rest of the story. I work for a department that pays medical bills and provides medical supplies services and therapy for children with serious, severe illnesses and/or injuries. It is a tax supported program and is regulated by the State of California. We have guidelines that must be followed in authorizing providers, services, etc. What pisses me off is that the old adage "The Squeaky Wheel Gets The Oil" is so damned true to the point that it is unfair to the "good" quiet ones! This child's mom is a "squeaky wheel". I know what you're thinking. You're thinking, well, "My god, how terrible. Her child has this rare horrible condition". You would be right. It is terrible and a terrible shame that this child must live his entire life out of the sun. But, mom has decided that her child is more important than all of the other children in the state who also have terrible afflictions and medical needs (let me say that I am all for parents being focused on their children, that's not her claim to shame). Last year, her "squeaking" netted her a new condo paid with taxpayer money. Yes, I said a CONDO. This year, that one isn't good enough, because the moron chose one with a skylight (uh, did she forget her son cannot be exposed to UV rays???). But, in addition, she is also screaming to her Congressman that she needs a brand new SUV with specially tinted windows. Not just a vehicle, but an SUV. And her washer and dryer aren't working all that well, so she will probably need a new one of each of those. Oh, and don't forget. Her 6 year old son needs a DSL connection for their computer. You think I'm joking? Oh No. I'm not. The scary thing is WHY THE HELL ARE WE EVEN HEARING ABOUT THIS??? Why is the congressman's office calling the local agencies and sharing this information? Do they really think that the taxpayers should support this family? This child has no other disability except that he cannot be exposed to UV rays. Mom insists that it is necessary for her to be with him 24 hours per day, therefore cannot work. Yeah, the DSL connection is for the kid...sure. Am I a total bitch or is there something wrong with this system??? I'm just sick of people taking handouts and acting like they deserve it. Maybe this is why California has that litle deficit? Geez.

I'll keep you posted if they actually give her this crap she's asking for. I think it's bullshit and I figure, if you get all that for that illness, a cold oughta be worth at least a free Icee courtesy of the taxpayers, and a child in need of a heart transplant oughta be eligible for his own helicopter, yeah?

Mail Call

I have a question for ya. Well, let me give you the background. Mr. San Diego got a big promotion yesterday, so being the nice girlfriend, I purchased a card and sent it to him via the US Mail, complete with polaroids of my naked boobs enclosed. Now my friend says it is illegal to mail naked pictures through the US Mail, but I say that hey, if Playboy can do it, why can't I? Who's right?

Movies?

Unfortunately, I didn't see a single movie this weekend. I know, slacker. But, I had an outdoor weekend! So to stick with Tuesday movie theme, I thought I'd dedicate today to John Cusack. John Cusack is one of my favorite actors and, in fact, I'm sure if we actually met, we would probably immediately get married and live happily ever after. But unless I become a stalker, chances are slim that I'll ever meet him, so I'll just have to settle for Mr. San Diego.

Anyway, from his debut in Class (which I finally got on eBay!) to the teen flicks that made him a cult star, to his mushy love stories of 2001 (I still haven't seen Serendipity!), he's just John ~ one rad dude. I admit, I don't know him, so maybe its all an act, but in all of his interviews and certainly, by the characters he chooses to play and the movies he chooses to act in, he just seems really interesting and down to earth. So I'm just throwing out a couple of links so you can get to know John, too. In case you've had your head in the sand, here is his filmography. Apparently he will be playing himself this year in the movie Adaptation, another Spike Jonez flick. In addition, he is scheduled to play Max Hoffman in the title role about an art teacher/dealer trying to teach Hitler about art. Ummm... sorta a weird idea, if you ask me, but if John is there I'm sure it'll work! (ok ok ok... there was that Grifters fiasco, but otherwise they're all good!) Anyway, you wanna know more about John, the internet is full of sites for news articles, interesting campaigns, or even those pesky personality quizzes!

Which John Cusack Are You?

Welpers, there ya go... that's today's Movie Tuesday.

PS Sorry for posting TWO quizzes, two days in a row... I do not normally post quiz results on this page. I had no idea that today one would be fitting to my post or I would have skipped yesterday's Han Solo (aka "yummy") thingy. Then again, it could be the fact that my true age has now been disclosed and I want to remind everyone that I'm still as immature as the next 12 year old.

Grrrr

I'm having a bad day. Someone give me an attitiude adjustment before I explode! Why do weekends have to end, anyway?

My budget is off by $46,883 and I can't find it. My boss is totally pissing me off. ARGH! I'm feeling overwhelmed so I better lay off the boggling this week and gets some darn work done. Plus I just did something weird to my posting screen. Hmmm.... thats it, I'm going home sick. I wish.

Oh, I just remembered I have a massage appointment tonight. All of a sudden, I'm feeling a little better. And I just found my 46k. Gee...it only took five minutes for things to look up. I need to quit bitching so much.

MYGUYWONMYGUYWONMYGUYWON

Woot! You know I was totally jazzed at today's Nascar Race. WOW! I almost missed it, too! I was supposed to be out cruising around in a boat, but everyone got a late start, so Mr. San Diego told me to go ahead and stay and watch it while he got the jet skis picked up and gassed up and all the other crap he was doing, done. I was sooooo happy to see Jimmie absolutely kick butt. He raced so awesome! Probably the most amazing part was when after the last pit, he was in 10th and had only, what, 70 laps or so and as I watched how agressive he got, I was on the phone saying "ok, either he is going to take this one home or he is going to crash!" Whew... glad it was the former! One by one he caught up and passed 'em all!Anyway, Kudos to Jimmie Johnson for a fabulous race. Oh yeah, we're # 2 now!!! yea!!! Of course there is that huge gap between #2 & #1, but I guess we'll just have to see what happens! Boy that made my day!

In other news, wow, I had an incredible weekend. Friday night, Mr. San Diego surprised me and took me to a firework show happening after the game at Qualcomm Stadium. We parked in some apartments right across the street and the display was incredible! We were so close that you could just feel the BOOM of the fireworks right into your bones! It was maybe the best firework show I ever saw!

Then Saturday he took me to my first baseball game, Padres vs. Brewers. The Padres lost, but to tell ya the truth, neither one of us even likes baseball. hehe But he got these special club seats so we got all the food and beer we wanted through the 6th inning. Pretty cool! I was designated driver, though, so I didn't get to have so much beer. We got free floppy hats (Beach hats) and Mr. San Diego gave me one of the new Jack-In-The-Box Antenna Balls with a Padres Cap on. I've seen the Dodger and Angel ones, but I guess they only distribute by what teams are local to you. I'm wondering if I should get some to sell on ebay for people who can't find them? I am totally into antenna balls, by the way. I only have one antenna, so I dunno what the deal is, but I like 'em. I just got that Icee one in the mail this weekend, so it will be reigning proud on my antenna by next weekend!

We also spent some time on Saturday in La Jolla... walked along the beach, found a cool little preserve area owned by the college, napped in La Jolla cove and went to watch the seals playing. Then today, as I mentioned, was jet skiing and boating in Mission Bay. Okay, I know this was a long post about me me me, but I had such a great weekend that I just want to jot it down so I remember it all! This journal is actually for me, ya know?

But, next weekend is my deal. Gotta come up with stuff to do since he will be up here. Actually, we will probably spend Friday & Saturday nights with our friends watching movies (I didn't see a SINGLE movie this weekend!) and/or playing poker. Saturday we'll go to the Renaissance Faire and Sunday there will be another Nascar Race, so maybe there isn't much to plan afterall. Maybe we'll just do some bike riding in Chino Hills State Park on Sunday after the race. Well, that wasn't hard afterall =)

Tired now... long drive and I'm all salty. Nighty night!
